How long does it take to complete the program?
Students enrolled full time (12 credit hours per semester) can complete the degree in as little as 3 semesters or 1 year. Part-time enrollment options are available but will extend the time for completion.
Who is eligible for this program?
Students who have a bachelor’s degree and an interest or experience in healthcare qualify to apply to the MSHS program.
Are courses on campus, online or a combination?
All courses in the MSHS program are offered in a 100% online asynchronous format. Some live Zoom sessions may be available for students to have face-to-face time with their instructor.
What tracks are available and what are the differences between them?
Cabarrus College’s Master of Science in Health Sciences degree offers 3 tracks.
The Healthcare Leadership track combines leadership principles and practical applications in healthcare management to equip graduates for high-level operational roles such as healthcare administrator, clinical director, and eventually, top executive positions such as chief executive officer or chief operating officer of healthcare facilities.
The Clinical Research track integrates rigorous coursework with hands-on practicum experiences, preparing current and aspiring nonclinical research professionals (e.g., data managers, research monitors, research project managers, etc.) to apply advanced research methodologies and ethical considerations to real-world clinical studies. Graduates will be prepared for positions such as clinical research manager or director in healthcare institutions, pharmaceutical companies and academic or regulatory agencies.
The Education and Training track prepares graduates for in-demand jobs educating future healthcare professionals, for example as a health sciences faculty member at a community or 4-year college or as a healthcare educator in various departments within a healthcare system. The health professions education focus of this program distinguishes it from other graduate degrees (e.g., MHA or MEd).
Can you complete the MSHS program while employed?
Yes, the MSHS program is aimed toward working professionals. 7-week online asynchronous courses allow for work/life balance. Full- time students will only be enrolled in 2 classes per 7-week session. Part-time curriculum tracks help students manage their course load along with work/family obligations.
Am I eligible for financial aid?
This will depend on your individual circumstances. A large percentage of our students receive aid, which includes a mix of scholarships, loans, grants, work/study, institutional gift aid and federal financial aid. Our dedicated financial aid team will work with you individually to find all aid for which you are eligible. The first step is to complete your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
